Wednesday, November 15, 2006 | A Rose-chain of Bliss: For Martha and Andrew
We wish you
The last strawberry of summer,
An umbrella-shared ice-cream in the rain,
A warm bed on a cold night,
A rainbow over slate-grey moorland.
A dragon-fly's sapphire hover,
Starlit seashore evenings,
Waking sunlight through shutters,
The long embrace that stills pain.
Fountains of laughter,
A slow song on an empty dance-floor,
Airport reunions and railway-station partings,
Long-distance late-night phone calls.
Audiences of one among a thousand,
Cold wine on a terrace at dusk,
Moments in the dark when only movement speaks,
And the perfect-pitched harmony of an eternal duet.
